Dynamic Childbirth

In June we welcome Sharon Fennimore, M.A. to Vermont’s birth and family community. I first met Sharon through our mutual interest in Zenbarn Studio in Waterbury Center. Sharon is gradually moving her practice to Vermont, and starts teaching with a Dynamic Childbirth class at Zenbarn Studio, June 24 from 11am – 2pm. Learn more and register here.

Sharon’s class is unique because it is experiential, meaning hands-on learning. She offers a yoga-based approach to holistic childbirth preparation for pregnant people and their birth partners. Topics covered include practical techniques for labor, birth and beyond including movement, labor positions, sounding and breathing, communication, relaxation, and partner touch techniques.

Sharon writes, “Absolutely no experience with yoga or meditation is required or assumed and these techniques are helpful regardless of the type of birth you are planning to have.  Even if you are planning a scheduled cesarean birth, learning how to communicate with your partner and medical professionals, breathe and connect with your baby during birth, and care for yourself during and after your birth is invaluable.”

Communication skills that involve compassion, authentic relating, and deep listening are truly invaluable. Heightened states of sensory experience during pregnancy can cause sensitivity to stressful communication styles including disagreements and arguments. Engaging with your birth partner through Sharon’s Dynamic Childbirth class will give you a platform for acquiring communication skills that can be applied during stressful experiences.

Sharon’s own experiencing of giving birth is profound and moving. She and her unborn child survived a near death experience and she sought her healing through her love of yoga. She holds two masters, one in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh and the other in East Asian Studies/Chinese from the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, her interest in Eastern traditions has led her to become a meditation practitioner, artist, healer, teacher, and yogini. Read more about Sharon here.
